David's Baptism

Yesterday, Christian, I and the boys went on first extended car ride. My nephew, David was baptized by his Dad (my brother) as a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. It was a BIG day for the little guy.

I'll always think of him as little because I remember VERY CLEARLY the day he was born. I was a junior at BYU in Provo and was getting ready for church in my apartment. The phone rang and it was my brother calling to tell me his son was born. As it happened he was born on his mother's birthday (I think it was her 25th birthday). I was so happy for her and excited to have a little baby to play with/babysit that I lived so close to. That day I went up and visited him at the Hospital there.

Other things that I remember about David...

• Helping my brother fold cloth diapers as I was there at his apartment for dinner
• His 1 year birthday party (he got cake and blue frosting all over himself). It was hilarious to watch as he ate his cake. Then a week later (April 20th) I was there with my boyfriend Christian (my husband now) on our 2nd date. Little did I know Aaron and Emma had already noticed something different about this guy and knew he was "the one for me."
• feeding him baby food on more than one occasion
• Entertaining him (ie.. trying to keep him awake) on the road from Pocatello to Logan to visit my Great Aunt Libbie and then we kept on to Provo. I think I was trying to keep him awake so he could eat.
  

The trip went well and the boys slept the entire way to Seattle. However just seconds after we pulled into the Church parking lot, both were awake and screaming. They did pretty good; I think it was because they are on a pretty good schedule.

Yesterday was also was the last time that I'll see my 2 brothers and their families for a long time as we are moving to Kansas later this week. It's been so great to live close to them and be able to celebrate milestones with them. I will miss them so much when we move.

Dr. Appointment

Since we are moving next week, we changed their 4 month well child appointment to today. I was a little apprehensive because I know Payden is still a little small and behind in some areas.

We found that:

Patrick: 12 lbs exactly! - Holds his head well, and supports himself when he's on his tummy. He also pushes off on his legs when standing.

Payden: 9 lbs 9 oz (up from 9.4 three weeks ago) - Our Dr wasn't too much concerned with his weight (although only in 1st percentile) because he's eating well and thinks he just has a higher metabolism than Patrick. However when she tested his neck strength, she was quite worried that he wasn't holding it up or supporting himself while on his tummy. She wrote a referral for him to see a Pediatric Physical Therapist. They will do an evaluation and give us some exercises to do with him to help him to strengthen himself. I am going to try to see if I can get him into to see someone this week before we move. In the meantime, I am going to be more diligent about tummy time more often throughout the day.

So.... here is playing with the camera today. I had to bribe Maddie with a treat so that she would stay. Too bad Payden is so far away from the camera.

3 Months

Wow! Another month has gone by; these boys are now 3 months.

We have an appointment on Thursday and we'll find out their weights. I think Patrick is probably about 12 lbs and Payden is 10 lbs.

Here are a few tidbits:

Patrick

• He recently discovered his hands and is constantly sucking on them. It's really cute when he finds his thumb and sucks.
  
• absolutely loves to smile.
• After waking from his nap, he will just lay in his crib and talk to himself and be all happy.
  

Payden

• He also discovered his hands are for sucking
• Just in the last couple weeks, he has started smiling so much. They mostly come when his tummy is completely full.
• He is becoming quite the little sleeper. The last week, I have had to wake up him for feedings and now is CONSISTENTLY sleeping 5-6 hours a night.

So I was playing with my camera the other day only to find out that I have a video function on it.

Here is a video of Patrick and Payden. They were just fed minutes prior and both are really happy. Pay attention to their feet; they go crazy! (and so do the bouncers)

The Funny Things you hear...

Ever since bringing home the twin boys, we've heard so many things. Just going to the grocery store makes us think we brought along some celebrity with us.

Here are a few of the questions/ comments that we hear...

1. People see 2 car seats and say "Twins?" - this one leaves us staring blankly like uh yes. Once Christian told someone "No, we have triplets but we left one in the car." I think they actually believed us.
2. Are they Identical? - no they are fraternal
   
3. Do twins run in your family? - no, we went through IVF in order to have them.
   
4. Were you surprised when you found out that were having twins?
   
5. You really do have your hands full don't you? - uh duh..
6. I bet you guys are tired

Then in Sacrament meeting at church today two little girls walked past us and one of them asked us the cutest thing, "How come you have two babies?" I think they were maybe 4 or 5 years old. I thought of the easiest explanation... Heavenly Father gave them to us and we got two at the same time. The little girl seemed satisfied with that answer.

2 Months Old

Wow! I can't believe they are 2 months old already. And they are getting so big!

Christian and I took Patrick and Payden to their 2 month appointment on Thursday.
Their stats are:

Patrick: 9 lbs 4 oz, 21 1/2 in
Payden: 8 lbs 10 oz, 21 1/4 in

Here's whats new with the boys:

Patrick

1. He loves to smile and usually it's from ear to ear. He especially loves his Daddy and saves his biggest smiles for him.
2. Eating is still a bit of a chore. Don''t get me wrong the boy LOVES to eat but maybe too much. He will get so worked up and then refuse to breastfeed. Part of the problem also is that we started supplementing them with bottles when they were 2 weeks and I think he has realized how much easier it is to take milk from a bottle instead of me. It is our daily battle and some days are good and then other times like last night are horrible. At least he is getting 100% breast milk as I am able to pump for him.
   
3. After eating (described above) he is the happiest baby. He will sit in his bouncer and just kick and kick his feet. His arms will also be going crazy all over his head; Christian calls them his octopus arms. :) After about 30 minutes he will fuss; telling us he is ready for bed.
4. He is our little Houdini and can get his octopus arms out of any wrap that we put him in. When I go to check on them in their crib, his brother will be asleep but Patrick will be laying there with his arms going wild in front of his face.
   
5. He is getting better and better with tracking movements. He especially loved watching Daddy vacuum yesterday and had turned his head to watch him.
   

Payden

1. At about a month, we would describe him as a pretty fussy baby. He is doing better though and those moments happen less frequently.
   
2. He is starting to smile more and more. I was rewarded with a big one this morning after he had eaten.
   
3. Earlier this week, he also had started kicking his feet in his bouncer.
   
4. He is a champion nurser although he isn't taking in the full amount that he needs to. We are still supplementing him a little bit with breast milk.
5. He loves to sleep on his side and if he perchance rolls to his back, it will usually wake him up.
